Phone tree changes?

Due to the Ensigns changing our home phone service provider I will loose access to our telemail blast system.

A couple options.

1.  A cell phone email blast could be set up for free.  We could all use it by emailing to a direct list.  Text messages would be sent to cell phones.  We could even set up a Google group for this.  Text messages may cost something for some people to receive depending on their cell phone plan.  We would have to gather the text messaging email address for each effected phone.  Mine is 6308785680@tmomail.net   Messages have to be short or they are truncated or some may generate multiple messages.  CC's can go to regular email.  Kind of complicated at 1st but has it's advantages.  Also there are text message blast services that allow you to send the blast from a mobile phone or the internet.  http://home.swarmteams.com/swarmit/faq#faq_10

2. We could buy a pay per call phone blast plan:  Costs $45.00 for 500 of 30 sec phone calls.
Example:  http://www.call-em-all.com/Pricing/Pricing.aspx  There are probably other similar providers.

3. combine the 2 options.

Thoughts?   Please blog your thoughts There.  thanks      Jim Ensign    if you know your telephone email address please email it to Jim

text message and phone tree (Phone tree proposed is this. Roughly, Head &/or Asst Coach &/or Manager agree on item. Divide the team into 2 alphabetically, inform decision of No. 1 and No. 7 on list. Each person is responsible for contacting (incl. home.work.cell) the next players family alphabetically. If no answer, leave message and try another number until you reach a parent in person.

I tested out the google groups option for text messaging. It can work but is really tough. Everybody would have to create your login at http://groups.google.com with thier email address and sign up for text messaging. Then we can do some testing. Please take the time to register with google groups and input your cell phone numbers. I tried to set this up manually but I was rejected. We can try again but we really need your help with this. As an alternate we could use a volenteer to head up the phone tree system. If you can help with this please contact me. Thanks Jim E

      From: Kathy Mullin Hi Jim--

I'm interestesd in finding out about the system your team has had in the past for cancellations. Did you set up some kind of automated phone system so everyone gets a phone call at once? I'd be interested to know more about this and if/how much it costs to put into place. Is this through your company? If it's available to others, I'm sure George and I would love to get more information. Let me know....

      Thanks!
      Kathy

I used to have the system as part of my home phone system. Then I changed to a cheaper system and lost that function. The company we used was www.trinsiccenter.com . At first the voice delivery notifications were immediate. Then the system changed and it took up to an hour to deliver the messages. Meanwhile I was able to cut my phone bill with a VOIP provider.

I posted this blog entry with some notification options:
I still like the pager notification system through google. Set up a group like:
      pythons-textpagers@googlegroups.com

Everybody has to login individually to confirm before they get the notifications on the cell phones. However the upside is that any member could send a text page to the group’s cell phones at any time. That way the burden of communication does not have to fall to one person and you can access it from anywhere.

A simpler option is just ask for the cell phone numbers and providers. Then you can email a text page to the group from your computer.

Hope that helps. Please blog your experience for everybody to learn from.
